_Graduation thesis

The accustomed man is a sleeping man. As Georges Perec likes to say, he is a man invaded by a torpor and absolute indifference, a man who acts under the impulse of "an attitude dictated by the habit, apparently serene" but actually "detached from passions".

This aptitude to acquire habits is essential. It frees us from the need to make day-to-day decisions. We do not need to think about it to do it: we are used to it. If habit is a force, it can also limit us. On one hand, it seems to blind us, on the other hand it keeps us in the illusion of security. Coming out of the famous "comfort zone" can be scary: as soon as we meet the unexpected, we feel in danger.

The habit is a mechanical repetition and therefore implies a defect of attention: it weakens the acuteness of the look, asleep at the same time as it sacrifices astonishment which allows to see the world with child's eyes.

How can a man free himself from his habits?
